Twenty to the end

For this sticker, you play 20 games against other people. You win some of those games and lose some, but each one teaches you something small. The Online Player sticker took 10 games, so playing 20 shows that you keep coming back. If you have no account yet, start with the Online Player sticker.

What counts

Here is what counts toward your 20 games:

  • Games against other people count, but games against the computer do not.
  • Every game counts, whether you win it, draw it or lose it.
  • Games at any speed count, from fast games to slow ones.

A game that is stopped before it really starts is not saved in your game list.

A coach's tips for the twenty

Playing 20 games takes a while, and these three habits make them good games:

  • Play three or four games, then take a break, because a rested head finds better moves.
  • When you want to try something new, pick a slow game for it.
  • If you lose your queen, play on anyway, because the game still counts and comebacks happen.

The day the counter broke

Your 20 games are part of a huge count, because Chess.com counts every game ever played there. In June 2017, the counter passed two billion games: 2,147,483,647. Older iPhones and iPads cannot count higher than that number, so the Chess.com app stopped working on them. That shows how many games people play online. Each line in your own game list stands for a real person you played.

How you get the sticker

Open your game list and count the finished games you played against people. On Lichess, your profile shows all your games, so leave out the computer ones. On Chess.com, look under Game History, and on ChessKid, your grown-up sees the list in Game History. Do you have 20 or more? Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. A grown-up at home can check it for you. Did you play on your account before you had the passport? It still counts.
