Your child can learn here without telling us who they are.
Lessons, training and puzzles on sjakkpass.com work without an account. An account saves your child's progress, and a parent creates it together with the child.
There are no ads and no chat on the site. We never sell or rent your data, and we never use a child's data for marketing.
Without an account
We store nothing that tells us who your child is. Our server sees what every website sees when a page is opened: the IP address, the browser and device, and the language. It keeps that in a technical log, for security only.
With an account
An account stores what you type at sign-up and what your child earns, so the site can show it again next time:
- The name you choose. Use a nickname, not the child's full name. Only the person logged in sees it.
- Your email address and a password. The password is stored scrambled, so nobody at Sjakkpass can read it. The email address is for password resets and messages about the account. News from us comes only if you press Subscribe in your profile, and Unsubscribe there stops it.
- The avatar your child picks from the site's own pictures.
- The progress: lessons read, training done, tests passed, stickers turned to color, medals, artifacts, coins, items bought with coins in the Market, and the stats.
If you sign up with Google, Google sends us the name and email address of the Google account, and we store those two things, so the account carries that name. What Google keeps is in Google's privacy policy.
Children and parents
sjakkpass.com is made for children aged 5 to 12 and the grown-ups around them. The parent who created the account is responsible for it and may see, change or delete everything in it.
A child is never asked for a phone number, an address or a photo. Nobody can reach your child through the site, and the site never contacts a child.
When you write to us
The form on Help and contact asks for a name, an email address, a topic and your message. A phone number and a screenshot are optional. The message lands in our mailbox, as does an email to support@sjakkpass.com.
If you report a mistake in a puzzle, we may keep the ID shown under the board and your message, without your name or address, until the puzzle is fixed.
The launch list
If you leave your email address on Get the passport, we store the address, your choice (a home set or a group order), your country and language if you gave them, the page you wrote from, and the time. We also store a scrambled trace of the sending device, never the device's address itself, so we can remove a flood of spam in one go without knowing who you are.
The list is used for one thing: to send you one email the day ordering opens, with your bonus link. Nothing on it is given to anyone else.
Cookies
Cookies are small notes a browser keeps for a website. sjakkpass.com uses only the ones it needs: one that keeps you logged in (between visits too, when you tick "Remember me"), and one that remembers your settings, such as the language. Nothing else, and no tracking across other sites.
If you block cookies in your browser, lessons and puzzles still work, but logging in does not.
Who else sees the data
Only these, each for one reason:
- Our hosting provider. sjakkpass.com runs on a server rented from Hostup AB in Sweden, which holds the data for the site.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the launch list and Loftet.
- Google, only if you choose to sign up or log in with Google.
- Public authorities, if the law requires it.
No advertising company, no analytics company, and no one else. Cloudflare and Google may process data outside the EEA, under the EU's standard contractual clauses.
Loftet
Loftet, at loftet.app, is where your child plays chess against the toys, without giving a name, age or email address. It has its own privacy page.
How long we keep it
- An account stays until you delete it. In your profile, "Delete account" does it at any time, or ask us by email. It removes the name, the email address, the avatar and all the progress.
- Messages to us are deleted when the matter is closed.
- The launch list: bonus addresses are deleted after the launch email, or sooner if you write to support@sjakkpass.com; requests from clubs and schools stay while we work together.
- Technical logs are deleted after 90 days at the latest.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you or your child, have it corrected or deleted, ask us to limit how we use it, or object to a use you disagree with. A parent does this for a child. Email support@sjakkpass.com; we answer within 30 days.
If you think we handle your data wrongly, you can complain to Datatilsynet, the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, or to the data protection authority in your own country.
Changes to this page
When we change this policy, we update the page and the date below. If a change matters for your account, we email you before it takes effect.
