You have won 3 games in a row at the same event.

Three wins, no gap

One win shows you can do it. Three wins in a row show that you can do it again and again. A draw or a loss in between breaks the row, and then a new row starts. All three wins must be at the same event. Your row can start with any game you play there.

Where you can do it

You need a place where you can play several games in one day. Ask a grown-up who plays where the next tournament or club night is. It can be at school, at a library or a club, or a game night at home. At a tournament, a round is one game for every player, and each round brings a new opponent. At a club night you find your own opponent. The grown-up in charge can tell you who is free to play.

Why game three is often the hardest

At a tournament, players with the same score often play each other. So your third opponent often has two wins too, which makes game three the real test. At most club nights and game nights, nobody sorts the players by their score. That makes three wins in a row easier to collect there.

Playing game three

When you have two wins in a row, play game three just like the first two. Think about the board in front of you, not about the row. Steinitz, the very first world champion of chess, said something that a chess magazine wrote down in 1890. He said the hardest part is winning a game when you are already far ahead. So when you are ahead, slow down and check each move once more. So if your opponent offers you a draw, say no thanks and play on to win.

How you get the sticker

Show your grown-up or coach the results list, the standings or your scoresheets. The standings show everyone's points, and a scoresheet is where you write your moves. At a club night, the grown-up who runs it may have watched your games. Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. If you have no club yet, your grown-up at home can check it. Sometimes a tournament gives you a bye, which is a round where you have no game. A bye is not a win, but it does not break your row either. Did you do this before you had the passport? It still counts.
