What is an ambassador?
Every player in your group was new once, and maybe a friend asked them. This time, you are the one who asks. An ambassador speaks for a group. You bring someone who does not play in your group yet. It can be a friend, a cousin or a classmate. You do not need a poster, only three words: come with me.
How it works
- Tell your friend what to expect: real games, and beginners are welcome.
- Play them yourself, or find them a partner at their level.
- Sit next to them during their first game.
If your friend is still playing a month later, you have earned the sticker. Most groups meet once a week, so a month is about four visits.
If your friend wants to stay
Show them where and when the group meets, and their grown-ups at home take care of the rest.
Why it matters
More players means more games, and more games against players about as good as you. Losing is easier when your friends are there. And it is more fun to show up when your friend is there too. July 20 is World Chess Day, so it is a good day to bring someone.
How you get the sticker
Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. The grown-up who runs the group knows who came and who stayed. If you have no club, a school chess group or a library group counts too. Your grown-up at home can check it with the grown-up who runs it. Did you bring someone last year, before you had the passport? It still counts, if they still play. If nobody has stayed yet, the sticker waits for you, so try again with another friend.
