What is a club championship?

Your club holds its own tournament, often once a year. This sticker is for playing in it, not for winning it. Every member can play, and the winner is club champion until the next one. You know these players from club night, but this time every game goes on the results list.

How it works

It runs like any other tournament, and the First Tournament page shows how. If you lose a game, you still play in the next round.

  • Some clubs play one long game each club night, for weeks.
  • Kids' groups often play it all in one day, with short games.

Many clubs split players into groups by age, so ask which group is yours.

Who sets it up, and how you find it

The club runs it, and the grown-ups who run club night pick the dates. Look for a poster at the club or on its website, or ask at club night. A school chess club is a club too, so its championship counts. If you have no club yet, the Club Member sticker shows how to find one.

The last round is the real test

In round one, everyone has lots of energy. By the last round you are tired, and maybe you have lost twice. Play it like round one, because it counts the same. If you lose a game, say "good game."

How you get the sticker

Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. Show them the results list with your name in every round, or a photo of the final standings. If you got a bye, which is a round with no opponent, that round counts as played. When your club is at school, your teacher or your grown-up at home checks it. If you missed a round, the sticker waits for the next championship. Did you play one before you had the passport? It still counts.
