You have won your age group at a regional or state championship or, if there is none where you live, a big open with players from many clubs and schools.

What is Regional Gold?

Win your age group, and you are the champion of your whole region. Your region is bigger than your club: a state, a county or a district. Once a year, players your age come from all over it. The title is yours for a whole year. If there is no regional championship where you live, win a big open instead. A big open is a tournament with players from many clubs and schools.

How the gold is won

You play in an age group: under 8, under 10, under 12 and up. There are three to nine rounds, and whoever has the most points at the end wins the gold. If you have the same points as someone else, a tie-break rule or a playoff decides. A playoff is extra games between the tied players.

How to find it

The Regionals sticker shows how to find your regional. When you have found it, read its own page with your grown-up. The page tells you the age groups, the dates and how to sign up. Some regionals want you to play a smaller event first, so ask early.

Coach's tips for the big day

Train a little every day in the weeks before. Solve puzzles so you spot traps and tricks fast, and sleep well the night before. After a lost game, the next one is a fresh start. If you are not first this year, come back next year. And if you win with your team instead, that is the Team Gold sticker.

How you get the sticker

Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. Show the final standings, the results page, or a photo of your trophy. If you have no club, your grown-up at home looks at the standings with you. Did you win your regional before you had the passport? It still counts. Bring the old results list.
