You have scored the most points on your team in a team tournament.

What is a top scorer?

After the last round, the player with the most points on your team is the top scorer. A win scores one point, and a draw scores half a point. If you tie with a teammate, you both get the sticker.

How a team event works

The Team Player sticker explains how team chess works. For this sticker, only one thing matters, and that is your own points. Each round, you play one player from the other team, and your points add up round by round. Your team can lose the match, and you can still be the top scorer.

How to score the most

Play every round, because a player who sits out scores no points. Fight for every half point, right up to the last move. Even a draw from a lost position gives you half a point more than a loss. The Chess Olympiad is a big event where countries play each other in teams. At the 1986 Olympiad, Nona Gaprindashvili won all ten of her games, which gave her ten points. That is what a top scorer looks like.

Where you find a team event

First, ask a grown-up whether your school or club has a team. Many schools play against other schools. Many clubs send teams to a league, which is a group of teams that play each other. A team event at a real board counts for this sticker. If there is no team where you are, ask if one can be started. Four kids and a grown-up are enough to make a team.

How you get the sticker

Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. Show them the results list with every board's score. A photo of the team sheet with all the scores works too. The captain, who leads the team, or the coach knows who scored the most. If you have no club, a school team counts the same. Your grown-up at home checks the scores. Were you top scorer before you had the passport? It still counts.
