The sticker with no rulebook
Every other sticker has a fixed rule, but this one has none. Your grown-up or coach picks what it is for, and it can be for something new every time. You can agree on a goal together and then work for it. Or the sticker comes as a surprise, for something special you already did.
What can it be for?
- It can be a tradition, something your club, your school or your family always does.
- Your grown-up or coach can make up a mini tournament or a challenge.
- You might get it for a hard thing you kept trying until it worked.
- It can also be for something cool that fits no other sticker.
Why is it called wildcard?
In card games, a wild card can be any card you need. In sports, a wild card is a place in a big event, given outside the usual rules. In 2025, chess gave one to a 12-year-old from Argentina. The president of FIDE, the world chess federation, named him to the Chess World Cup. In round one, he beat a grandmaster, a player with the top chess title.
No rule yet where you play?
Then help make one, and bring it up at practice, at school chess or at home. It works best when kids and the grown-up decide together. Write the rule down, so next year's kids can find it.
How you get the sticker
Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. They set the goal, so they are the ones who check it. Show them you did it, in whatever way fits. If you have no club, your grown-up at home decides what the wildcard is for. Did you do something special before you had the passport? Ask your grown-up or coach, because it may count.
