You have won at least 10 tournament games.

Ten wins, any tournament

For this sticker, you need 10 wins in real tournaments, which shows you can beat many different players. Any tournament counts, whether it is at school, a library, a club, or a big weekend tournament. Fast games and slow games both count: blitz, rapid and classical. Over the board means a real board, not a game online. Losses on the way take nothing away, because only the wins add up.

Three ways to win

There are three ways to win a game, and checkmate is only one of them.

  • You deliver checkmate to the other player's king.
  • The other player resigns, which means they give up.
  • Their time runs out, and you still have enough pieces to checkmate.

Each of these counts as a win, but a draw does not count for this sticker.

Where the wins come from

To find a tournament, ask a grown-up who plays, or ask at school, the library or a club. A tournament often has three to nine rounds, with one game in each round. So one good day can bring you several wins, but reaching 10 wins can take a few tournaments.

Keep count

For each win, write down the date, the name of the event and who you beat. A win against a beginner counts as one win, and so does beating the best player there. When you are close to 10, think only about the game in front of you. The count can wait until the game is over.

How you get the sticker

Show your grown-up or coach the results lists or the standings. A photo of a list works too, and your own written list helps your grown-up count. A bye, a round where you have no game, is not a win. If your opponent does not come and you win because of that, the win counts. Your grown-up or coach checks it and hands you the sticker. At home, your grown-up checks your list. Did you win tournament games before you had the passport? It still counts. If you lost an old list, tell them where you played and who you beat.
