You won against Simen the mummy in a Battle.

Who is Simen?

Simen is the clumsy mummy of the Lotus level and one of the toys in the Attic. You play chess against him on a screen. His arms and legs each go their own way, and so do his pieces. In good chess, you put your pieces on good squares. Simen does the opposite, and he loves it. He pushes pawns forward for no reason, and he parks his pieces on bad squares. His trades leave him worse off. Beat him, and you wrap him up.

Game or Battle?

You can play Simen two ways:

  • A Game has three helpers: a hint, an undo, and a reroll. The reroll makes Simen take his move back and try another.
  • A Battle has no helpers at all.
  • Only a Battle counts for the sticker.

Hunt for his weak pawns in a Game first, and then play a Battle.

Win with better squares

He will not give you a free piece, so use his mistakes instead:

  • Find his lonely pawn, a pawn with no pawn of his own in the columns beside it.
  • Attack it with two pieces, and if only one of his pieces guards it, you win the pawn.
  • Put a knight right in front of it, and the pawn is stuck.
  • Take the good squares he leaves empty, so your pieces work together and his do not.

Play all the way

Simen never gives up, and there is no clock, so there is only one way to win: checkmate. Simen says yes to a draw when he is losing. A draw is not a win, so never offer him one. Play on until his king has no way out.

How you get the sticker

Beat Simen in a Battle, and he gives you his mascot button. It sits in his slot on your shelf in the Attic. The button proves you beat him. Show it to your grown-up or coach. They hand you the sticker for your passport. White or Black, both count. Lost this time? Good game, and play him again as often as you like.
